Troy Lady Blu

January 27, 2010

As I mentioned in an earlier blog this week, I spent some time walking around downtown Troy late in the evening , looking for something interesting to shoot and I was prepared for the low light and had the 50mm f/14 and the D3s all setup and ready to go

I came across five murals that were hanging, exposed to the harsh elements, in front of an old run down movie theater.  I believe that these wonderful design graphics were created by local artists attending Rensselaer Poly-technical Institute . These wonderful murals needed to be brought back to life in the Digital Darkroom.

As I was taking my photos a young man came up to watch and we talked about his high school training in AudtoCad and how finding work was very hard. I thought to myself how lucky that I’ve made it through that part of my life, and as I looked at this mural thru my viewfinder, I notice that the young-artists vision of the Blu Lady was with silky smooth skin and relaxed neck and face muscles .

I sensed, perhaps due to my moving away for those college days of optimism, that the tension, age and angst of the Blu Lady belting out her high vocal notes needed some special attention to reemerge and be released with a slightly new persona.  So I’ve added three of hours of my life to bring her back to life fighting shape so the Troy Lady can Sing her Blues.

I hope the original artist, Marcus Andrew, Class ’09, will not mind.
