am not sure when it happened but this suppliers shipping process is sliding backwards. On Tuesday of this week I placed a simple one-package, stock available, order at two NY based Photo equipment suppliers at 4:43 pm, they both offered free shipping, and their track record historically was two days to my doorstep.
My doorstep has received supplier A’s item, but where was Adorama ?, When I referred back to the tracking number, it appears this function has been outsourced to a 3rd party provider, MAILEXPRESS, which now routes your Adorama’s freight to their Massachusetts hub which now adds two days to delivery. The good news, B+H still takes two days with free shipping, so be mindful to change your expectations when now dealing with the delivery experience of Adorama, as these delays may also impact you …

Many customers have reported that they like to have the opportunity to select a free shipping option, and while the company that we are using at present may not always be the fastest, they are reliable and trustworthy and we have not received any complaints that they have ever failed to deliver within the time frame specified.

Thank you for your response. Adorama has made some choices (outsourcing delivery) that its competitor has not. In my situation, the result is a better delivery performance by your competitor. Hence they win, you lose. I truly appreciate your acknowledgment that ‘ the company we are using at present may not always be the fastest…’ You can see by the EXPRESSMAIL tracker that my package was sent to Worborn, Mass and not directly to upstate NY. Perhaps the situation is not shared by other customers, but if I need something quickly, then the nod will be to B&H.
My favorite lens is the highly limited and sought after 24 mm f/1.4 which I pre-ordered from Adoroma based on my relationship with Jeff and Moose. Each time I pick up that lens and use it, I am reminded of those contacts and was thankful that Adoroma had the integrity not to divert the lens to someone else. I would continue to pre-order or purchase hardware or accessories that are not time critical.

While I do understand that your choice of retailer may be affected by the limitations of the free shipping method that is offered, the option for paid shipping is always available.
There is an excercise taking place to identify an alternative shipping method that we can continue offer at no cost to the customer, but – as I noted above, we are absolutely open and up-front that free shipping can take up to 10 business days.
