10/15 BUG CRASH CONFIRMED: For Snow Leopard CS5 users with new NIK HDR and NIK Sharpener.

Dear Ed,

Thank you for contacting Nik Software.

Some users have experienced issues with the new update to Sharpener Pro 3.004 in Photoshop.  Typically the issue will present itself with a spinning beach ball after clicking OK in Sharpener Pro, and may cause you to have to force quit out of Photoshop.  If you have experienced this, please uninstall Sharpener Pro 3.004 and install the older 3.002 version.  To do this, please do the following:

  1. Uninstall Sharpener Pro v3.004 by launching the Sharpener Pro 3.004.DMG file and when prompted click on Uninstall.
  2. Download Sharpener Pro v3.002 here: http://niksoftware.groupdropbox.com/file/b488fae0e30cbd25
  3. Install Sharpener Pro v3.002 and the next time it is used in Photoshop, it should no long have an issue.

It has been almost three months since NIK announced the release of the 64bit version of Viveza2, now, in the coarse of the last two weeks the NIK team has gone release happy.  So the NIK faithful are now happy, and we also have a new product based on HDR digital darkroom Imaging.   Best of all, these new releases are available as free upgrades for your photoshop and light room applications.

I was also able to download a 64 bit Nikon Capture NX2 plugin for Color effects pro (CEP_….NX2 is still buggy with release 2.5.5, so I’ll wait out my early adopter syndrome on this one…and stay with 32 bit version of CEP.

The is one release that still has not made the 64bit upgrade and that is the NIK noise reduction Define product.  I was tired of the waiting game and based on several great reviews from some well respected pro’s, jumped the NIK ship and have now gone with Topaz Labs 5.0 deNoise, (64 bit) and haven’t look back.  Back to NIK though, from my own experiences their plug-in’s seem to install seamlessly. I have not had any CS5 crashes relative to the new upgrades and the 64bit feature will defi

nitely let you work a tad quicker.

The NIK product line is very robust (and pricey) and covers just about anytype of Image enhancement feature that you may want.  My workflow includes the entire bundle, and starts at Nikons NX2 color effects pro right thru all the CS5 plugsins.  It is expensive to own the entire collection so one way to defer some cost is to join NAPP and use discount codes.
