Autumn Chipmunk

We all know that chipmunks are curious space cadets critters with the metabolism of humming bird wings.  I was surprised one mid afternoon to have this guy wobbling around my feet after a wobbly acorn.  I just watched this guy, sort of stumble, not giving a care in the world that he just was a few feet away from me.  So I quickly realized a photo op, and went for my 70-200VRII.  He had scampered back to his winter lair so I waited for him.

The wait was on my stomach and he was soon back out and still in an inebriated state. He couldn’t care less that his 6’4″ perceived arch enemy had him square in his D3s sites. I choose the lowest f stop on the lens, f/2, for a shallow depth of field and waited for him to move his head and face into the sunlight. It was strange being less than a few feet from him.  He typically shoots up a tree when my car enters the driveway some fifty feet away.  I’m not sure what kind of chemicals those acorn had  but it was funny to watch him hobble around and see him so tame.
