You cannot really make your choices with weather in photography. The challenge is how to be creative at point of capture…. Then later in the digital darkroom you’ll reflect back on what you were feeling and decide how to creatively develop and then share that moment with others…. The colors on this Image came from a sepia sky and cooler blue for the water. Both colors were influenced in camera at point of capture. The tall masts have a shimmery-blurry sea reflection and the harbor water is glass like with the surface ocean waves muted, also decided upon at point of camera. The image is also sharp in four major places, so you will forgive the slight boat movements, also decided upon at point of capture. The point here is that creativity begins at point of capture. Knowing what you can create and adjust later in photoshop assists your initial vision.
Three years ago, “A New Dawn” as I laid on this pier waiting for the sun to rise I reflected on the journey that I was headed into by attending my first photography workshop. My thoughts still remained the same as I looked forward to my 3rd- ‘Junior year’ workshop. My hardwired penchant for technology has been toned down a bit and I am aware that my focus is now isolated more to the why and the creativity of this medium.
I am writing this blog at the end of this years workshop, the electrifying fellowship of learning has now been disbanded to the four corners of the country. I have been fortunate to make some new friends and renew acquaintances with others. The learning experience with Vince Versace cannot be defined with superlatives. He remains our Beethoven of Photography.
